Most of the people who ride the trail (like you) live in the midwest, so you have a pretty good idea of the scenery. I live in western Colorado, and I was frankly amazed at the tranquil beauty of the farmland, the prairie, and wooded jungle near the river. I was also pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the people we met. More than once the scenery reminded me of "Deliverance," but the experience was totally different. When I tell my non-biking friends that we spent a weeks' vacation in rural Missouri not visiting Branson or family, and how beautiful it was, they give me a "you must be nuts" stare.
I'm glad that the benefactors, trail volunteers and taxpayers of Missouri had the foresight to create and maintain this magnificent resource. Thank you.
Then we drove back on I-70. Ugh.

exactly people would say Missouri

but to you’re point they don’t ride bikes. I change into my normal clothing at the trailheads so I went into the casino in disguise. I heard squeal like a pig and I didn’t think I could pedal a bike that fast! Seriously rural Missouri is beautiful and very green with a lot of water.
Day 1 Clinton to Windsor. Warmup ride after visiting Truman Reservoir
Day 2 Pleasant Hill to Windsor. Rock Island Spur
Day 3 Booneville to Windsor. Backtrack that day, stayed 2 nights at the casino.
Day 4 Booneville to Portland
Day 5 Portland to St. Charles
Traveled many of the backroads and seeing the real Missouri will change your perspective. We stoped by to say hello to an old neighbor that moved to Missouri since they were only 8 miles from our route home I-44 so that was cool. Stopped at Meramec SP and went to the cave. And yes I saw the slot zombies totally possessed by the machines
