I'm running a 47/32 on my 1978 Trek TX 900 with a 12-30 7 speed freewheel. Not as super wide as the OP is talking about though!
I don't like it.The problem, with old school cranks is that the chainrings are pretty close together and that means you are trimming the FD all the damn time. No thanks, I'll take a triple over a superwide double. I started a thread on this here,
