And I'm proof positive that even an improper "name brand" bike can still run into a tree on a MTB trail neither you nor the bike have any reason to be on!

For something I am literally wiping my bottom with, WalMart does just fine. Mostly because America isn't smart enough to embrace bidets tho.
Anything can happen especially when a bike is not put together properly, tuned or using any quality parts. Plenty of people ride those bikes and they fall apart. You don't have to be riding Alpe D' Huez for a bike to fall apart. Also riding a bike into a tree is not what I was talking about. Clearly you don't get it but maybe you haven't worked in a shop and seen the issues that come in from these or have seen the bike section at wally mart or something else? I don't know. BSOs are crap and there is nothing on the planet that anyone can say that will magically make them better.
