What chemistry? My NiMH 14.4v (12 cell) is about 15.8v at first. A 6V NiMH would be 5 cells, so that's 15.8 x (5/12) = 6.58v. At one hour running a HID and strobe, my pack is still over "nominal" (14.4v).

Other chemistries will vary.
