I personally have hurt my back in the past, and am awaiting my new one in the mail right now. Only one more day to have to wait!
I have been dealing with lower back pain for 10 years after a ruptured disc (L5/S1). I found that the angle of the seat is what caused most of the pain I experienced when I started riding. By slightly tilting it forward, it forces your pelvis forward putting what I believe to be less stress on my back. I've had a few different seats borrowed from friends and this is what solved the issue.
