Additional (probably obvious question): If I add 2 teeth to the smaller big ring, and then subtract 2 teeth from the biggest cog in the cassette, should it "feel" exactly the same from an effort perspective, or is it more complicated than that.
If the above is true, I thought going to 52/36 and 11/32 11 speed might give me the best of everything (easier bailout climbing gear since I only added 2 to the big ring, but added 4 to the smallest cog in the cassette, AND a faster "fastest" gear when going downhill).
The reason I'm thinking about upgrading to 11 speed ultegra is pretty much vanity/fun related. Since I'm getting new stuff I thought I'd do some research on if there are better ratios for me than what I'm doing.
Crazy, or am I onto something?
If you go to 52/36 and a 11-32 you will get both a higher highest gear and a lower lowest gear, but the difference is marginal, compared to what you have. Unless you tend to run out of high gears (spin out) I suggest sticking with the 50/34 and get a 11-32 cassette.
