Most generalizations and stereotypes are unfair by their very nature. They usually contain some truth. That makes them even more unfair, because the hardest lie to disprove is one that contains truths and half-truths.
That said, as unfair as it is, the stereotype that people from New Jersey are rude wasn't born out of a general tendency to kindness and courtesy, and the stereotype that "roadies" are arrogant and unfriendly didn't arise from a general tendency toward humility and personal warmth.
I have found you are correct about both groups.
