I bought a nice set of wheels with Campag. Record low-flange hubs, butted DT spokes, and Fiamme red label tubular rims, and the first thing I did was to cheat death by replacing the Hi-E skewer the previous owner had proudly used with the front wheel.
I have a few set of "Tune" skewers which are made from Aluminum and Titan, and they are very good and very light, too. It's not the material, it's what you do with it i suppose.
