Seems to be the way things are going. As manufacturers embrace discs they may find less demand for rim brakes and eventually the cost to have a bridge on the seatstays and boring for front brakes might spell the end for a lot of rim brake bikes.
That said, the disc brake bikes I have tested do not seem to have any better stopping power than my '14 Chorus brakes.
