Bikes: Some silver ones, a red one, a black and orange one, and a few titanium ones

It's not that difficult to bend a round stay like the Tubus stays. Well, it's "difficult" in that it takes more effort but they can be bent quite a lot. For example

I had to bend the stay down quite a bit because I can't mount it to the wishbone of this bike. The wishbone is part of the YBB suspension system.

The stays on this rack are only slightly bent.

I put a Tubus Airy on the same bike (I don't have pictures yet) and had to bend the stays almost 90° to get them to work due to the nature of the Airy's mounting system. I just clamped the end of the stay in a vise and gently bent it until I got the bend I wanted. I dry fitted the stays several times during the process.

You also don't need both rack stays for the rack. The side pull brakes and the nature of the small frame on my wife's bike negate the use of the left stay. You can use just one of the stays and still have a very stable mount

I've since replaced this rack with an Airy...well, I've actually replace the entire bike because this one got stollen with an Airy on it but the new bike also has an Airy...and I still only use one stay.
