Some things, like World Cup soccer and the Olympics are so special that they are only held every four years. Others, like the Walker Cup in golf are every two.
Although the last time I did this was in
2016, this is nothing like the noteworthy events listed above. I was just too lazy to put it together last year.
The women folk (wife and daughters) are taking a trip back east to visit
grandmama, so the Atelier will have only myself,
our dog, two cats, and two parakeets over the weekend. The plan is to meet up in the morning, get in a ride, return to my place, burn some dead meat on the grill, drink adult beverages (teetotalers are welcome as well), then head on into the Atelier. Got a headset needs removing/installing? Frame that wants to go from 120 to 130mm spacing? Wheel needs truing? I won't do it, but you will, with proper tools. If my reasonably close neighbor Velocivixen shows up she might be persuaded to do her "tear down, repair, and rebuild a 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub" trick blindfolded. Andy_K might look up at the frames hanging from the Atelier and find a 57cm model that he missed and must have. jyl might have the
'61 Bianchi Specialissima back from the chromers (highly doubtful). I might even be persuaded to fire up the torch and do a brazing demo.
The 2016 announcement wasn't too bad, if I say so myself, so I'll just copy it over and do a bit of editing:
The ride
I'm thinking ride by 10ish, back by no later than 1, prolly earlier (depending on weather and heat), and fire up the grill. It'll be a Tour de SW Portland. Some hills, nothing hard.
Could be this ride. Could go a little
longer and hillier. With enough people we could make two rides, long and short. For those that are either tied up in the morning, are too out of shape to even do the short ride, or otherwise only collect C&V bikes rather than ride them, skip to the next step.
The Wrench
Got a headset needs installing? Frame that wants to go from 120 to 130mm spacing? Wheel needs truing? I won't do it, but you will, with proper tools. I might be persuaded to pull out the torch for a brazing demo.
The Grill
I'm cleaning up the shop, stocking up on drinks, both adult and not, and planning on a Costco run for grillables and hors d'oeuvres. Planning on meeting up at my house on the outskirts of Portland, SW section, over the ridge where Portland, Beaverton, and Tigard meet up. I've got plenty of space for parking if you want to driver over, but you gotta bring your bike(s), unless you're crazy enough to fly into PDX just for this event. In that case we can prolly scrounge up a visitor bike for you, but only if you're between 5'2" and 6'5". Plenty of room to park your extras if needed.
Bring pretty bikes, plenty of room in my acreage to set them up for sharing and bragging on.
I'll PM/email with address to those who are in. I'll double up on the food and drink if you ride over - hey, I ride the 10 miles to Velocult from my house to do those rides!
RSVP so I can load up properly.
EDIT: RSVP list: Andy_K, merziac, Drillium Dude, jyl, Jeff Wills and his better half, Wildwood, Velocivixen - will Mr. V be coming as well?
