Perhaps you are looking for lightweights - in which case there are a lot of useful suggestions (but you'd never catch me owning any aluminum bike, so, sorry Cannondale). If you're interested in vintage mountain bikes, or cruisers, or 3-speeds, or BMX, the answers are going to be very different.
