Fork Replacement Question

Did a search, didn’t find any answers ...

I’ve got a Diamondback hybrid that I bought on the cheap, figuring to swap out some stuff and build a bike for neighborhood rides, gravel paths, etc. I’ve already replaced saddle, grips, brakes, and laced up a pretty bulletproof set of wheels (steel-axle Deore hubs/Sapim Strong spokes/Velocity Chukker rims). It’s a big, slow, heavy bike — for a big, slow, heavy rider :-)

The last item on the list is to get rid of the SR suspension fork. I have a suspension-corrected (Surly Karate Monkey) fork that has the correct axle-to-crown length. My plan was to get a crown race and star nut that’ll match my existing headset and just swap the fork over that way. Is that doable, or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance ... I’ve got a fair amount of bike-wrenching experience, but it’s all road bikes and mostly threaded forks.
