From my experience, the more expensive bike rides nicer and has better quality components. It's the same with other hobbies like sports cars, golf, gym, photography, Hi-Fi etc, etc. The equipment does the job at any price level and if you want things a bit slicker, smoother, faster, more durable, etc., then you buy at the next level up until the law of diminishing returns stops you financially.
