I prefer a Radler (Scholla, Alster Bier, Alsterwasser, Shandy, Panache'). A decent pilsner or ligher, and 7 Up. Quenches thirst, tastes great.

After a long hot ride, though, one of the best things is ice-cold watermelon. I have not seen a bike-mounted cutting board, nor panniers that easily hold and keep cool a whole watermelon. If you aren't worried about bike portability, you can slice and peel several navel oranges, and top with a mash up of a cup of oil-cured black olives, several sprigs worth of fresh thyme leaves, and a quarter cup of olive oil, blended to give a caviar-like texture. Top with toasted fennel. After a hot ride, you'd be surprised how many ice-cold orange slices you can consume.
