This months issue of Popular Science Magazine has a couple bike made by automanufacturers. Honda made an internally geared DH/FR bike that looks pretty decent. The also speced a folding bike from Hummer, the Jeep bike with AWD, yes a chain or cable or something drives the front wheel after hitting a switch. The most incredible one was made by BMW, and used the same front suspension design as their motorcycles. It claimed that it's dual front suspension that you could brake, the front end would not dive down giving you full suspension range of motion while braking.

It was more of a picture spred than an article, so it's not on the web site of the magazine. The BMW and Honda bike were made in house while the Jeep and Hummer went to 2 bike manufacturers to be built. The Bimmer MTBwas around $3500 if I am correct, which with full XTR and the full suspension probably isn't bad.
