So I recently picked up an old super course with some specialites TA cranks. They are attached to a 3 gear set up but I'm hoping to use the cranks on another build which is only using a 1x front.
most cranks have arms coming off so you can swap out chainrings but I'm not seeing those here. Am I missing something? Do I need a specific chainring or is it impossible to use these with anything other than the 3x set up they are installed on?
Yes, you are currently stuck using 50.4BCD, 5 bolt chainrings with this crankset currently.
The interesting thing about these cranksets is that the outer ring is the only one that is bolted to the crank "spider", the middle and inner ring are bolted to the outer ring only.

a 50.4 - 110 (or 130) BCD adapter:
With one of these you can use any standard chainrings you like!
