Having gone down on my shoulder many times but never hit my head. Most of those falls were in corners and the bike went out from under me. A few years back at a country intersection I came up to a cross road and did not pull my foot out. I reached over to balance on a mailbox and it slid off its pole. My face and neck slid down the 4x4 pole. I bled like mad but was OK to ride home. When my wife saw me she said I looked like one of those guys who had his juggler cut. I looked very bad for a couple of days but not very sore. I hardly ever use a helmet..
