Was in Jasper this past week and saw a pair of Moulden road bikes on a roof rack. Clearly used, clearly loved. I live just up the street from Hardcore Bikes on Whyte Ave in Edmonton, where Jim Moulden's name was still on the sign until last year. Mark, the current owner and former employee, posted this history on Yelp:
Established in 1989. The Hardcore Mountain Bike Store grew out of the custom frame-building Shop, Moulden Bicycle Works. Originally located in a converted sausage factory in the alley south of Whyte Avenue just off 101 Street, we were the first dedicated mountain bike shop in the city and grew rapidly so that in 1992 we moved to the current location. We have since truncated the name to Hardcore Bikes and have long ago included Road and Commuter bikes as well as Mountain Bikes into our selection. In 2003, the frame builder retired but Hardcore Bikes continued on and despite growth over the years, is still the same enthusiast-run, neighbourhood shop.
If I have my facts correct, Moulden apprenticed with Brad Proctor in frame-building.
