For a week you could probably get by fine with one of the better imaging smartphones. For a dedicated camera, the Sony APS-C mirrorless cameras are a good choice - excellent image, lightweight, compact, not too expensive. Alpha 5100 or 6000 both highly rated - 6000 adds electronic viewfinder (better for sunny conditions where LCD displayed image is hard to view). Both are excellent in low light. Add a polarizing filter, remote shutter control, tripod, external flash, lenses...
