The 520 comes with a standard "base" map, which is essentially useless for navigation. The 520 Plus comes with the Garmin Cycling Map set, which is essentially the Open Street Map set.
It's easy enough to download and install the Open Street6 Maps to the 520. DC Rainmaker details the install process.
