Unsealed? Pooh - I've not found this to be an issue. The 46 year old headset on my all weather, 30,000 mile +, Raleigh Super Course commuting bike is still as smooth as any despite not being "sealed".
I agree. I have some (no name french thread) that are 50+ years (oldest is 62) that i'm sure were never serviced that are still smooth and still look perfect after i inspected them recenty.
