Trek Alpha 1.2 Handlebar conversion help needed

Looking for some advice on switching the drop bars on a Trek Alpha 1.2 to flat bars. This is my brother in law's bike. He had a stroke a few years ago so he's a little weak on his right side. I just rebuilt his Schwinn Super Sport for him but he can't handle that heavy of a bike, or the drop bars. I suggested he get a more modern, lightweight bike with brifters so he didn't have to take his hands off the handlebars to switch gears. He picked up a nice Trek so now I need to convert it to a flat bar. It has Bontrager now so I thought I'd stick with that but I need help with which model bars should I get and which shifters and brake levers too. The bike has a Sora 3400 fd and a Tiagra rd. This is my first dealings with a bike that uses modern components. I'm used to c&v so I would appreciate any and all input please.
Thanks much! Bernie
