Not to divert attention away from your original question, but if you are riding mostly on pavement and you like the balloon tire feel, you might prefer Schwalbe Big Apples. They are meaty, big, and bouncy, but they are smooth, like slicks, and they roll great on the road.

Yeah, I've looked at them, but tend to do some gravel work and ride all over the place, like down grassy banks. I like the Access All Areas aspect of the ET, they have just enough grip to inspire confidence. but they are made by Innova, which isn't the highest quality manufacturer.
So I figure one of the inverted tread BMX tires might be a good substitute. Looking at the Holy Roller, Kenda K-Rad, Schwalbe Crazy Bob. The K-rad looks interesting as it's available in a 2.5....
