The old Mafac straddle cable was so short that it positioned the yoke directly in front of the tail-light. I decided to change both of them today but didn't have replacements....or at least I
thought I didn't until a day ago; that's when I discovered that you can use old shifter cables. They have the same diameter and are flexible, just like the originals. In a couple of minutes I was able to reduce the size of the fixed-end anchors to fit the recesses in the Mafac spools. A little while later I had two new straddle cables and a very visible tail-light.
Rinko: When I built the frame I slotted the rear brake housing ends/guides but I forgot to slot the rear dérailleur cable housing stop and guide. I remedied that today. I haven't converted the fender to Rinko but I'll purchase a donor fender and rinko nut shortly to complete that step (VO 50mm Snakeskin if you're selling rinko splice pieces). I'll need to carry a lightweight headset wrench and removal of the rear yoke pulley is how I'd have to disconnect the rear brake cable to complete the disassembly; but iIt's got the essential rinko DNA. The cable guide/stop slots and a brass brush/copper slip ring assembly in the head tube/fork steerer; the fork can drop out without touching an electrical wire.
I love it when a plan comes together!
