I wondered about the different geometries thing too. But not specifically between men and women. More about that study sample of body dimensions. From what I read (not that much), the body dimensions may be different, but not that different. I would think that custom frame builders would know more about this.
There are several womens pro bike teams out there and that would be a place to start. Again I would imagine they ride the stock frames given to them. Then we have the big Iron Man Tri in Hawaii with all their bike count statistics each year. It could be the "fitting" and not the frame geometry that ultimately settles the issue.
