Listen, if she were the one saying "I don't need a $2,000 bike" that's one thing, but you're basically telling him to tell her "hey, you're not good enough for the bike you want." Recipe for disaster. A $500 bike is probably adequate for 100% of the people on this forum and yet, here we are riding fancy bikes. Must be something other to consider than "need", eh?
