OK, so about your varia... why can't you use a saddle bag? Admittedly, my frame is slightly larger than average. I have the varia on the bottom of my seat post and I have an additional blinky attached to the back of my saddle bag. There's a dude on this board in the electronics section called Wheres Waldo who has a 3D printing business... I ordered a clip for my varia so I can put it on the back of a bag. Not sure when it will get here but I can provide an update when I get it if you're interested in that sort of thing.
