So, back on June 11.. I had a really bad crash on a group ride that sent me to the hospital with a broken clavicle and scapular spine, some cracked ribs, collapsed lung and a ton of nasty abrasions. Bike sat in the shop for a while until I was physically able to pick it up... and when I brought it home, I found a crack in the frame on the drive side(right) chain-stay. It's not huge. There's a small chip and you can see a clear de-lam where the chip is. and then on top of said chain-stay, there's some cracking in the paint.. and I'm fairly certain that's caused by a frame crack underneath.
There's a local carbon specialist that I've been told does great work..and he gave me a good quote for repair. But as many of you know, you lose your 'graphics' when you do carbon repair. So, the frame might be solid, but it's going to look off because they won't be able to replicate what the factory did.
So that got me thinking.. maybe I just re-paint the entire frame and this time.. Go with a paint job that's really had my eye for some time? The quote for this repaint was not that much more than just repair/repaint the chain-stay.
So the bike is a 2016 Wilier Cento1SR UHC Team bike. It's a retired bike, originally ridden by Carlos Alzate. So, that provenance is the only thing that I have hesitation over.. but really, is that enough for me to NOT re-paint the frame?
The paint scheme I'm considering is the Wilier Ramato paint scheme.. the orange and chrome. I just think it'll look spectacular on this bike. But, the flip side is, I have to get Wilier Decals off eBay.. which isn't a big deal. but it would be missing some of the stuff it'd come with from the factory. Which I suppose isn't a huge deal.
What are your thoughts?
There's a possibility I won't fix it at all..I did try warranty replacement. That's a no-go. I'm working on another deal.. But I feel like this bike/frame deserves a 2nd chance.
Thank you!
