I've used and liked:
For recording cycling activities...
Strava
Wahoo Fitness
Cyclemeter
For navigation...
Google Maps
I also use Google maps to enable tracking me via Timeline. I want that for an objective witness in case I'm struck by a car, deer, etc., and have no memory of the incident. I was struck by a car in May but not unconscious. Google maps timeline corroborated my version of the incident. It's sorta-private (just between me and Google... and the NSA... and China, Russia, hackers, etc.). I can delete logs but cannot modify them so logs can't be falsified. The data file can be downloaded, converted and uploaded to Strava or other activity apps, in case Strava fails... which does happen occasionally. So far Google has never failed.
With reservations I'd accept Maps.me (much inferior to Google maps, but still useful). It's based on OsmAnd maps but much better -- faster and more stable. But I also use maps for scheduling public transportation and maps.me can't handle that. Google maps is far superior.
Tried and didn't care for or couldn't find a use for:
Ride With GPS
Map My Ride
Pretty much every other activity app. Tried 'em all, didn't care for 'em or they weren't better than Strava, Wahoo Fitness and Cyclemeter.
