You did just fine, we bought my son a Madison for his first road bike, he loved it, put a lot of miles on it, then the thieves took a 16x8ft. section of chain link fence apart to get it. It was a great bike, bombproof, kidproof just not thiefproof. Found it on CL but by the time I got the police involved the thief got scared off.
