No snark, just a realization that few if any desperately poor people who only ride bicycles out of financial necessity are posting their maintenance and equipment questions on BF from their homeless encampment.
There are some weirdly "frugal" and insecure/OCD types who seem to need assurances from strangers on the Internet that they haven't or won't potentially spend 25¢ too much on anything related to their bicycle riding activity, and are willing to spend hours doing "research" to avoid such an alleged wasteful expenditure of their precious cash.
That makes way more sense than the way you originally phrased it. I must say I find this drive to crowdsource trivial decisions both really puzzling and pretty amusing (especially the responses).
