Sorry about quoting myself, but I just read this again and realized there is an easy way to misinterpret it. By "merge left until that behavior ceases" I did not mean I would return back to the right when that behavior ceases. What I mean by "merge left until that behavior ceases" is:
1: Merge left (how much exactly varies depending on various factors)
2: Maintain line.
If behavior continues go to 1.
In other words, I would keep merging left until traffic would stop squeezing in and passing too closely, and then maintain that position.
What I mean by merging has been recently fully clarified so I won't do it again.
