1. because no one is in front for at least a .25 mile - and there are no motorized vehicles allowed (i don't 'buzz' peds like some roadies on the trail around here and slow down when required)

2. yes... i generally take my space so i can safely ride the lane, but really get the heebie-jeebies doing so

- it must be because i'm older - i rode and commuted daily in SF from Nob Hill to the business district for a number of years in the late '70s - so i do know how to ride in urban traffic - back then bus drivers were a hazard, but it's the drunk crackers on the beach roads who scare me now...
