It will work with a caveat or two. IIRC you set up the shifter using the 1-2 shift points. The ft der's limit screw will control the der's movement but the lever will be able to continue to the 3 point if the rider is overly aggressive or just mad. This is the problem 1- it will cause the shifter to become trapped at the 3 position, the cable will be so tight that the shifter internals won't be able to release easily back to the 2 point. 2- the cable will be under a lot of tension and can fail sooner where it's out of sight in the shifter.

So while not optimal it works well enough to have been speced as OEM by some brands back a while ago. But there were enough issues that these brands stopped specing the triple shifter for the double cranks soon. Andy
