Interesting. I had a similar feeling with EPS on a tandem. The shifts were so isolated feeling that if it wasn't for the feeling in my legs, I'd never know that I shifted. My stoker loved it because she didn't get that shift jolt feeling through her seat but for me, it was a vague, "Did it shift or not?" type of feeling. The response from Di2 and eTap feel a little more natural to me.
