I haven't completely ruled out the paint being original but it is 40 years (plus) old, it would have to have been stored very very very carefully (out of ultra violet light to preserve the paint and decals etc, etc) to have survived in the conditioning it is in. If not original it is a very faithful reproduction as I know the style of the lining and who would have painted them originally.
I have a Roberts bought new, frame # 127, it is original (always in bedroom or study) but the paint has faded nonetheless.

Like I said, the paint looked original together with all the components that appeared brand new. Additionally, I bought it together with a Motobecane Champion Team which also looked brand new and unused. I regretted having replaced the cotton tape handlebar wrap with orange leather tape even though it looks more striking.
