The spoke I need to replace isn't broken. It's slightly bent near where the spoke goes into the rim. I've ridden 80+ miles on it so far without problems and I don't think I'll experience a problem. The reason for replacing it is the same reason I am worried about using a silver spoke....anal retentiveness
