those plastic platforms are okay for light-duty riding around town, but they're not a very stable platform and could fall off. something that would be much safer would be the decksters, made by winwood. they're aluminum platforms that you bolt a cleat to and clip into your pedal that way. they're about $40 or so, i'm sure you can find them cheaper. keep in mind that you also have to buy another set of cleats to use with them as well.
