Um, the current World Champion DID accomplish it on a Specialized.
I like my Specialized bike a lot.
I have ridden several Cannondales, and one Pinarello. I like my Specialized as much as either of those.
But it's NOT the same frame you are contemplating. I've also never ridden a Lemond.
It seems the consensus is to go with the Lemond. But not because the Allez is "junk".
