Anyways, I went down the road to another bike store, and he said I needed a 55 cm, but would always recommend going down a size to the 54cm for weight concerns. He put me on a trainer, measured me, and said the 54 was a perfect size. So now I am confused. Which is better? (I am 5'9") Both felt really good riding, although I can't really tell since I am so new at this...
The difference in weight between a 54 and 55 is virtually nonexistent. Don't be fooled by weight weenies and sales people trying to push last years bikes off on you. Buying a bike that's too small then using long stems and seatposts to "make it fit" isn't the correct way. Just buy the frame that fits. If your LBS doesn't have it order it or go somewhere else.
I ride a 56CM TT. Shops are always telling me to buy small and use long stems. That puts your weight way too far forward. Raise the seat too high and you can't get the bars high enough. That shift too much weight to your hands. That can cause numbness on longer rides. I had a bike like that. It looked very aggressive with the high saddle and low bars. It was super uncomfortable though. Now my bars are level with the seat and no more pain. Good luck
