But this thread DOES remind us all to carry some sort of emergency contact info with us when we ride, whether in a group OR solo. An ounce of prevention (or 1/10th of an oune) can prevent a butt-load of worry or heartache.
+1 on the emergency contact info. I've scanned and reduced the size of my drivers license, insurance card, CC permit and an ICE contact list folded into about a 2" x 2" piece of paper tucked into the small pocket on the "door" part of all my frequently ridden bikes seat bags, along with $10. I also have a road ID bracelet and carry my LCP in place of tools if I'm not riding with a group. I agree it's taking a risk not to have a phone with you. Boy Scout envy I guess, I was never one
One item I don't yet have I think is a good idea is a tourniquet band in every seat bag. I take a daily 81 mg aspirin and my blood is fairly thin. My brother witnessed a weightlifter type (heavy but not fat) guy riding what must have been a BSO bike with a long seat tube that broke off cutting his leg deeply right around the femoral vein. Luckily he was in a populated area of the Raleigh greenway system, because he nearly bled out before EMS arrived.
