While you didn't mention any interest in indoor training, there are at least two good reasons to consider it: it's time efficient and it's much easier to do specific structured training.
Yes, High Pass Challenge is an excellent ride. I've done it three times and finished at the very end. And the demand is lower for it than RAMROD, so you can actually get in.
