For TV, it is not about the analyses as much as making it un-boring. This is a 5+ hour event X 20 something were the most exciting things for 90% who watch in hours 1-4.5 are the nature breaks. Which is why coverage of many stages start at the 30K to go.
Races are too long. They would be faster and more exciting if they were shorter.
Totally agree. However, shorter races mean fewer places to run advertisements and there is also the long European history and tradition that would have to be adjusted. I suspect that would be tough. But even during the height of Lance mania (before the rumors began) I was having a hard time watching every TDF race in it's entirety. Long is one thing, but long with no real action is hard.
