Charming, in that 1960s-'70s quirky British way. Seems to be yet another riff on the then-trendy theme of picaresque characters, handsome young rogues seeking their paths in life through offbeat ways, with lots of physical humor and occasional romantic encounters: O Lucky Man!, with Malcom McDowell in the Mick Travis character; Tom Jones; even Dustin Hoffman in Little Big Man.
Absurdity and surrealism were en vogue in British TV and movies then, reflected in the plays and scripts of Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard and others, and many 1960s British action/adventure series -- most notably The Avengers when it peaked with the Emma Peel era.
