If you look at an Easy Racer recumbent, you'll see there's an idler on the bottom run of the chain, halfway between the derailleur and crank. It's there because the chain came off of the original prototype and dragged under the rear wheel, causing a crash. On the OP's TerraTrike this is less of a problem but still possible.
I was going to make some joke about recumbents crashing. Then I kind of hemmed, and thought that's really not that nice. I mean, it's not automatically funny when something low to the ground tips over. Someone could get hurt, even if it's not far to fall. Then I looked on YouTube for recumbent crashes. I'm sorry, but every one made me laugh.
