I dunno, if I was a determined college bike thief, and saw that every day a $1000 bike was chained to this lock, and that the lock got left all alone every night....
Well, I would consider finding a way to saw through a chain link at night, when nobody much would be watching the rack, and if they were, I could just say the lock rusted shut and I'm trying to remove it.
Then I'd glue the sawed link back together. Next day, when the bike was locked up...I could walk up, snap the glued link with my bare hands, and walk off with a new bike.
Aren't you glad I'm not a bike thief?
