That bike is way more complex to make and build than any other bike I can imagine (except for expensive alex moulton bikes), made in expensive material (ti), and made in first world country with expensive wage.
I am really really puzzled now - maybe Peter is extremely generous and giving away bikes that cost $5,000 to build at $1,500 with his own money. Maybe he made mistakes calculating the manufacturing cost. Maybe he didn't think about make both ends meet. Maybe he really found a totally new way to build bikes at 1/10th of the cost.
Anyway, let's see how this unfolds.
The cheapest Helix (single speed) is now $2100.
It makes sense that introductory prices were much lower. Because with
no product, people took a risk about if, when & what would be delivered.
After some positive reviews & continuing production, I expect that demand
prices will increase further.
