Bikes: Heavy, with friction shifters

For "gentle" work (tuning derailleurs, removing wheels etc), any stand that has soft/rubber "jaws" should do the trick.

For any higher torque work, I'd recommend a stand that lets the bike sit on the bottom bracket and fork/front wheel, or have it standing on it's own wheels (and held by something to not tip over).
