It's very convenient when changing at the trailhead or parking lot before a ride when soap and water might not be available.

For what it's worth, I've taken to keeping a pack of baby wipes in the car to clean up when I get back all wet and dusty from a gravel ride, and with sweat in my socks. Not as sterile as sanitizer, but not as harsh on my (ahem, aging) skin.
